Scottsdale Across Generations

David Joyce originated the idea for this project and was commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art to create it; however, he passed away in 2003 before it could be completed. His widow, Kacey Joyce, and his daughter and her husband, Anna and Victor Maldonado, completed the project in his memory. These three started the community portrait project with events in August 2004 in which the public was able to take their own self-portraits in custom photo booths. The theme of the photographs was “wisdom across generations”, so people were encouraged to bring their friends, children, brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents. The more than 15,000 photos were then used in creating digital photographic mosaics on porcelain-enamel.
