Polygonum 2.0

Polygonum 2.0 by Belgian artist Tom Dekyvere is a large geometrical rhizome construction of rope and reflective triangles lit with multi-color LEDs. Consisting of over 13,000 feet of rope, the artwork will be installed above the Arizona canal between Soleri Bridge and Marshall Way Bridge, and will extend up to wrap the Marshall Way Bridge. Dekyvere’s public art practice explores the evolving and often unexpected bond between technology and the natural world. Polygonum 2.0 showcases the relationships between the organic and artificial structures specific to the landscape of Scottsdale Waterfront and the people who inhabit it. Polygonum 2.0 will be on-view at the Canal and Marshall Way Bridge throuhg May 1, 2017.

Polygonum 2.0 has been commissioned by Scottsdale Public Art for Canal Convergence 2017. As a part of a unique partnership with the BreckCreate, Polygonum 2.0 will be sent to Breckenridge, Colorado for its 2017 art festival, WAVE: Light + Water + Sound

Polygonum 2.0

Poem by Giancarlo Huapaya, translated by Maggie Messerschmidt

2.1

flux rises diagonally / at the axis it triples through a knot’s refraction / shining in tension / against a sustaining habitat of angles during the extraction of memory / the dimension recalls the rotation of weakness / articulates dimension to teach muscle / traps depth / torsion of cords sustains the sky / it projects while it transits trauma

2.2

the trapping disrupts noise / vocal accident – echo of fragment / traps thought to polish a map of extractions / nutrients travel through symbiotic vibrations / echo of light – elasticity of ecology / vision from the zenith is the algorithm for containing life / triangular eye watches over the prism / to extract nutrients of interactions with borders

2.3

you observe it like an ornament while it consumes you / it colors your aging with atmospheric language / complex calendar of loss / that flows from textile extremities / in an invasive spin of frequencies that shatter silhouettes / submerges photosynthetic smells / reflects the weight of sound over the origin of perspective / reacts like a trap before the tracings of position / fragments of peace like adornments of war

2.4

although I have shown it you haven’t realized / you need to crumple the map / I take the red from the axis / I want to unite each point that stretches in the solid structure / to deform concrete space / like origami / like a puppet / the knot like a political system / fragments of peace extracted like crystals / acquire meaning through each segment of cord

2.5

I rotate it to define the state of terror / the leakage from the edge that transcends into ruin / learn control within space / how do we learn without cutting the cords / how do we learn without spilling the shadows of the colors

2.6

I stretch blue cords / toward the extreme left / perspective creates a new communion of meanings / sky-water like a blue-green-purple-yellow-brown-reflection / bicolor scale arriving again at the top of the floor / I fold it / I unfold it / I unite it / I drop it / I change its properties / I change its axis / I transform it into liquid / I cut it / I liquefy it / I spill it over the people / over the water
