...the Garden Grows: BioMe

The site-specific work of San Francisco-based artist, Karrie Hovey, explores human intervention within the natural environment. By recreating desert plants out of industrial materials, including High Density Polyurethane Plastic (used in consumer goods like milk jugs, bottle caps, plastic bags, water bottles and hula hoops) and common materials found at hardware stores, Hovey poses an alternate reality - one in which the natural landscape is replaced by a manufactured scenery.


Watch how the fabricated desert blooms on the canal react to natural breezes as they spin on the surface of the water. It’s almost as though the canal is their natural environment.
