Scottsdale Public Art is excited to announce the grand opening of a new gallery space inside the Scottsdale Civic Center Library. The Civic Center Public Gallery replaces the former gallery operated by Scottsdale Public Art in the library. The Grand Opening event will also serve as an artist reception for the gallery’s inaugural exhibition, Messages in Ink, Women in Print.
The exhibition features fine art prints—including monoprints, relief, and intaglio—by female artists from across Arizona. Women artists have been historically under-represented in many art forms, but today women artists are flourishing in fine art printing.
The reception will include light refreshments and family-friendly activities under the direction of Scottsdale Arts Learning & Innovation. The free, all-ages activities include:
- Shadows of the Night Prints — In the spirit of Halloween, we will practice our printmaking skills by creating spooky shadow figures with Styrofoam relief prints.
- Fall Inkblot Leaves — Seasons are changing, and so are the leaves! What does fall look like to you? With papercutting and inkblot string art, you’ll see that no leaf looks the same.
The reception runs from 6:30–8 p.m. with activities in the lobby of the library.
