About the Event

Dates: Tuesdays, Feb. 8 and March 22, 2022

Join us for a three-part workshop series that blends traditional Native American practices of storytelling with a contemporary approach. The first workshop has already passed, but don’t worry: you can still get the full experience with the final two workshops. This series is in conjunction with FIRST: Native American Arizona Artists in the Public Gallery @ Civic Center Library. Participants will be able to use the techniques taught in the workshops to create their own zines.

You may have heard the term “zine” before and wondered what it meant. A zine is a self-published work of original text, poetry, drawings, and images that is reproduced in small quantities. Think of it as a mini magazine! Amber McCrary is a Diné poet, zinester, and feminist who specializes in creative writing and mixed media. Participants will learn creative writing/poetry, collaging, and mixed media techniques to make a small publication.

All ages welcome. No prior experience is necessary, and supplies are provided.

Space is limited. Registration is required through Scottsdale Public Libraries
