Creatures and Monsters
Creatures and Monsters is a group exhibition of artwork in any media by Arizona artists who explore and create the creatures of their imaginations. Historically, mythological creatures like a gryphon or cyclops embody qualities that we admire or detest and do things ordinary humans cannot. They exaggerate and facilitate our life lessons and foibles. A monster helps us put a name to our fears and tell stories about conquering them. These monsters, like the kraken, put a name to unidentifiable beings and the mysteries of the deep seas.
What kind of creatures do you create? Are they angelic and beautiful or funny or scary? Are these creatures you know as complex as you are? Do they have legends and stories? Unique, multifaceted, and wild? Or are they dark and hidden in the shadows, ready to come out and help us learn more about ourselves?
