Adams creates photographs with the wet plate collodion tintype process, first used in 1850. His current work, Power, explores the social, politic al and environmental landscape of the American oil industry. He creates ultra-large-scale photographs on 55-gallon oil drum lids.
“The Creative Residency in the Scottsdale Livery comes at a pivotal point of my career”, says Adams, “the residency will reinforce my career path as a working artist. I will use this gift oftime, space and resources as a catalyst to forge forward and to focus on my studio practice while directly engaging the local community”.
David Emitt Adams is a Phoenix resident, with a BFA in Photography from Bowling Green State University, OH and MFA in Photography from Arizona State University. He recently has exhibited his work at the Roswell Museum and Art Center in New Mexico, and has an upcoming exhibit in New Orleans this summer.
Throughout his residency, Adams will be working at the Scottsdale Livery Studio on most Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., so stop and say hello! Adams will also be giving demonstrations, artist talks, and other special events that are free and open to the public. Visit the Scottsdale Public Art Events page for current event listings.
