About
To call attention to the worldwide environmental crisis caused by textile waste, this exhibition features Arizona-based artists who have created artworks from old, self-sourced clothing and cast-off textiles as their major components. These artworks carry their own messages while diverting a small portion of textile waste from the landfills.
Approximately 92 million tons of textile waste end up in landfills every year. In the last 20 years, the volume of clothing Americans throw away each year has doubled, from 7 million to 14 million tons. Many clothing items are worn only 7 to 10 times before being discarded. These resourceful artists are diverting a tiny part of textile waste into their artwork practice.
Co-curated with Susan Allred, artist member at Eye Lounge contemporary art space since February 2020. Allred lives and works in Tempe.
