Tree at Patagonia Lake, 2021

This fabric collage is composed of hand-dyed silk on linen. It tells the story of a tree that stands on the shore of Patagonia Lake in southern Arizona. The lake was created by local ranchers who wanted a place to sail their boats—in a land of sand and rock. Linda Helding was enjoying a late afternoon cruise around the lake, sponsored by the local park service, when she spotted the tree framing the full moon.
