Tonto National Monument, 2021

This collage, using the Japanese Boro stitching technique, was inspired by a photo Marcia Matthieu took while standing at the lower cliff ruins of Tonto National Monument, looking out toward Roosevelt Lake. In this work, she reproduced the awe felt at the beauty of the landscape. The huge rock in the foreground reminds her of the passage of time in this amazing place and the geologic forces that created it even before the Salado people built their stone dwellings here.
