Red Mountain Interpretation, 2021

Inspired by a photo of Red Mountain taken from Fountain Hills, Trudy Johnson used oil pastels on canvas to create a drawing with intense colors of the scene. Using a technique developed by Trudie Roberts, she cut the canvas into strips and wove it piece by piece between alternating green cotton warp and weft. The reconstructed image was framed by stitching on a solid black border, accentuated by handwoven tape made on an inkle loom, which is a small loom used to make belts and straps.
