Mary Bates Neubauer

Ashler Hills Neighborhood Park

Scottsdale Public Art is working on a public art project at Ashler Hills Neighborhood Park in north Scottsdale at Ashler Hills Drive and 74th Way.

The city of Scottsdale is creating a neighborhood park that will include open turf play areas, a shaded playground, lighted basketball and pickleball courts, restrooms, lighted parking, and walking paths and trails. Construction of Ashler Hills Park is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

Artist Mary Bates Neubauer has been selected to design and install exterior artistic panels attached to shade canopies near the lighted sports courts. The five panels will be made from naturally rusted steel and will provide latticed patterns of light and shadow. The pattern represented in these panels is inspired by the Arizona cinquefoil, a shrubby native plant whose flowers have a five-leaved radial symmetry.
