Bill Barrett

LV III

LV III was the winning sculpture from 300 entries in the Anita J. Welch memorial competition in 1979.  Anita J. Welch was the editor and co-founder of Phoenix Magazine, and was influential in theater, radio, and television. The award was $10,000 and placement in Scottsdale’s public art collection. The piece is made of welded and brushed aluminum and has previously been located at the Civic Center Mall and on the south side of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The artist was consulted on the new placement of this work outside the Appaloosa Library, and he agrees that it is a more prominent site.

Bill Barrett is a sculptor, painter and jeweler. He studied art and design at the University of Michigan and is internationally known for his abstract sculptures in steel, aluminum and bronze. He lives in Tribeca, New York and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
