Michael Beitz

One Civic Pocket Park

The city of Scottsdale has asked Scottsdale Public Art to help create an artist-designed pocket park on the northwest side of the One Civic Center building, located at the intersection of Indian School Road and Drinkwater Boulevard. This will be a demonstration project to show how a pocket park can be designed and integrated into Scottsdale’s urban environment.

Michael Beitz was selected as the artist finalist for the project. Beitz studied sculpture and ceramics at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He then worked alongside the world-renowned furniture artist Wendell Castle as well as the New York City design company BDDW before embarking on his own interests as a design-based artist. Beitz has completed many public art commissions, both nationally and internationally. He is currently based in New Mexico and Colorado.
