Potentilla

The patterns represented in these panels are inspired by the potentilla, or Arizona cinquefoil, a shrubby native plant, whose flowers have a five-leaved radial symmetry. Potentilla was commissioned as part of the City of Scottsdale’s Ashler Hills Neighborhood Park project, located in north Scottsdale and funded as part of the 2019 Bond Election. Ashler Hills Park is comprised of open turf play areas, a shaded playground, eight pickleball courts, a basketball court, and walking paths and trails.

Artist Mary Bates Neubauer designed these five exterior artistic panels that are attached to the shade canopies located near the lighted pickleball and basketball courts. The panels are made from steel that was laser cut and sandblasted and will be allowed to rust naturally.
