Canal Convergence | Water + Art + Light is a free, 10-day, public art event featuring numerous large-scale, light-based installations, many of which will have interactive components. This year’s event will focus on the theme of “The Story of Water.”
Among the featured artwork this year is Standing Wave by the UK-based artist studio Squidsoup. Standing Wave uses approximately 600 orbs of light and sound that will simulate a wave over the Arizona Canal. Local artist studio Walter Productions is also returning, following up its popular Floatus fire show installation last year with Water Serpent, a metallic monster that will float on the canal and put on nightly, choreographed fire shows. The event will also include eight other installations.
In addition to the artworks, Canal Convergence features live music and dance performances, food vendors, a beer and wine garden, family-friendly activities, educational artist talks, and creative workshops throughout the event. Canal Convergence is nearing its goal of becoming a zero-waste event, and many of the activities will focus on sustainability. Local Light, an initiative to spread the atmosphere of Canal Convergence beyond the Scottsdale Waterfront, will also be on display throughout the event.
An annual event, this year Canal Convergence will take place from November 8–17 at the Scottsdale Waterfront—a stretch of the Arizona Canal between Goldwater Boulevard and Scottsdale Road, just south of Camelback Road.
