I Am You, You Are Me: Portraits

Mar 15 - Jun 21, 2021

I Am You, You Are Me: Portraits is a juried group show of portraits in all media on view at the Civic Center Public Gallery.

About

In our “selfie” age, photographic self-portraits are abundant. The ease with which we can make ourselves look perfect—with filters, angles, and lighting—is a click away. However, an artist creates a portrait to satisfy their vision of the subject, whether of themselves or someone else. What does the artist see?

A portrait can show much more than just a reflection of one’s face. It also shows the relationship between the artist and the subject. The artist’s perspective of the sitter can be the most important interaction. Their feelings about the person being portrayed are right there, speaking through the artwork. The line between artist and sitter is blurred. They become one in the act of creating the portrait.

Exhibiting artists: Susan Allred, Laura Amphlett, Neil Borowicz, Rebecca Clark, Dana Corbo, Turner Davis, Katherine Del Rosario, Jerome Fleming, Becky Frehse, Lex Gjurasic, Dain Q. Gore, Ira Grin, Tiesha Harrison, Jane Kelsey-Mapel, Lilach Keren, Galya Kerns, Kathi Knox, Brianna Noble, Eliza Plumlee, Kara Roschi, Alexandra Ross, William Touhey, Chris Vena, Johanna Virgil, Ingrid Wells, and Wendy Willis.
