Arizona Desert Fox at Sunrise, 2022

Claudia Lemacks enjoys many types of desert plants in bloom, and the ocotillo is a favorite—haunting with its strange, arresting form and the unexpected vividness of its blooms. She feels ocotillos embody the enticing beauty of the Southwest. One morning, a little desert fox who lives in her neighborhood was sleeping under a large ocotillo and she only had a quick glimpse of him before he ran off. This wool painting is her mental image of that cute little guy waking up under the ocotillo, with a beautiful sunrise on the horizon.
