Arizona Poppy, 2021

Kallstroemia grandiflora, better known as the Arizona poppy, was Debbie Kahn’s inspiration for this challenge project. It is truly a symbol of spring renewal of life in the harsh desert climate. This artwork is a wet-felted, double layered Merino wool and viscose collar embellished with amber beads and seed beads. The intricate pattern and layout were created to get shrinkage and stretching in the proper places to generate three-dimensional volume. The delicate shading was accomplished by blending fibers of 14 distinct colors of wool and viscose.
