Fire Station 612

Scottsdale Public Art is working with Maria Salenger/Jones Studio on a public art project for the new Fire Station 612 near Hayden Road and the Loop 101 Freeway in Scottsdale, Arizona. Salenger/Jones Studio will design, engineer, fabricate, and install exterior art panels. The panels will have a cut-out pattern in the shape of half of a Maltese Cross form, the shape of the Scottsdale Fire Department’s badge. The cross shape will be created from detailed hand drawings of the plants from the native landscape. The pattern cut into the steel plate art wall will allow sunlight to complete the whole image of the badge, which will change at different times of day and throughout the year. The proposal includes multiple panels with a unique pattern based on different native plants.

Fire Station 612 is being built to improve emergency response times in the area, which has seen explosive growth in residential and commercial properties. The city of Scottsdale and Scottdale Public Art have identified the main entrance exterior to the fire station as the optimal public art location.
