Kristine Kollasch

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

Scottsdale Public Art is working with Kristine Kollasch on a public art project for the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, located at 7301 E Indian Bend Rd in Scottsdale, Arizona.

This 30-acre park has been a Scottsdale staple for more than forty years and has approximately 1 million visitors per year. The park features trains, a carousel, a playground, a model railroad building, and a railroad museum. The bunkhouse, located near the parking lot and entrance to the park, is being replaced with a new 8,000-square-foot, indoor, multipurpose area focused on train-themed play. The city of Scottsdale and Scottdale Public Art have identified a location outside this new indoor multipurpose area for the artwork.

Kollasch will be designing, engineering, fabricating, and installing exterior artwork at the park. The artwork, titled Parallel Companion, will feature handmade tiles, glass, authentic railroad tracks and spikes, and other elements that will come together to compose a picture of the Arizona landscape; clouds, cacti, trees, sun rays, animals, and a train on the horizon will be included. Kollasch will be utilizing tiles made by community members in the project.
